I have iolo's System Mechanic installed on my comptuer and usually that is how I adjust start-up items and such. However, I have always been the only user on my computer - until now. I created another user account and tried to disable certain programs from starting up using System Mechanic while logged onto the unprivilaged account. However, when I switched back to my administrative account I found that the same programs I disabled in the unprivilaged account also became disabled in my administrative account. Is there a way to seperate the way programs start up when logging in as different users? Thanks for your help in advance...

System Mechanic doesn't understand the concept of different user profiles (many programs out there don't yet). It's editing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive of the registry instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive. You can probably use MSCONFIG for what you want to accomplish. It's pretty self explanatory. Let us know if you need help with it though.

So do I go into msconfig while logged in as the unprivilaged user then and change settings there or can I do it from my admin account for the unprivilaged one?

You have to run msconfig for each account that you want to change startup items for.

and don't forget that items in the all users>startup group should be moved over to someuser>startup group if you don't want it starting for everybody

did i just call it a group? wow, that's so windows 3.1 :sigh:
