Something that never fails to crack me up are multiple unsuccessful suicide attempts. In other words, when people try to commit suicide but fail, several times in a row. It isn't the process that amuses me though, it's the fact that others always fall for it. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to believe that someone who unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide 3 times is actually trying to kill himself? Ok so he slid his wrists but didn't realise how long it takes to die from the loss of blood so he was discovered and taken to the hospital. Fine, let's assume for a moment that he prefers "slow and painful" to "fast and painless" and that he really was trying to kill himself. So what happened the second time? He put a shotgun in his mouth and missed? Come on people, stop being so naive. If you hear someone talking about how they unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide several times, know that they were simply trying to attract attention. Just don't rub it in too much (certainly do rub it in, just know when to stop :) ) or next time they might do it for real :D

there was no reason to bump this 9 year old thread. -Admin DrPizza

thanks for the enlightenment; it's nice to see you're amused about another person's crisis.

How about the kid that was suing Judas Priest after a failed suicide attempt. He used a rifle I believe and pretty much took half his face off but lived. He of course is now very deformed, pretty sad.

On a upbeat note, saw a kid on dateline who got shot in the head and had half his brain removed but lived and went back to school. He had to have surgery to fix his scalp and he can still do normal things even though half his brain is missing. Totally amazing story about how determined he was after the the surgery.

Its a cry for help. Rather disturbing that you find it funny. You never know, might be you someday.

I'll look up the specific statistic later, but a vast majority of people who succeed at suicide have a history of attempts. The failed suicides are usually a subconscious attempt to get someone to notice that they need psychiatric help. It's against human nature to actually willfully want to die - can you imagine the misery that would drive someone to wanting to? I can, and it's nothing at all to laugh about.

You're right - it is a cry for attention. But you're a real ass for laughing about someone trying to kill themselves.

How can you fail to commit suicide?!?! You must really want to live if you fail to kill yourself

I have seen one to many people who have commited Suicide. This is not something funney or something to be taken lightly.
Suicide will only bring one thing, death, loss of life.....
It does not and will not solve the problem that they are faceing...But they do not see it this way....
It will only bring on more pain......But they do not see it this way.....
The problem will only become more intense......They do not know this.....
The number of people who will suffer.Father, mother, sister, brother....they do not think about this.....

Just ask for help, and if you hear someone say that they are considering this as a solution..
You should instead of joking about it, be Human, show them that you care......Do not leave them alone......
get them help.....911..a doctor.or a preist......

"If at first you don't succeed, then suicide is not for you." Period. It's the Natural Selection Process at work, people. I have had close friends that committed suicide. Delusioned-by-drugs, depressed, desperate people do these things. Better them than I.

I look at it this way; if you're gonna do it, then do it. Not trying to be harsh or insensitive, but the guy that actually DOES put a bullet clean thru his head and by some miracle, lives...that was not a "failed suicide attempt." Well, TECHNICALLY, it is, but he gave it an honest shot. Get it? "Honest Shot?" Hahahahaha!

I see cases on people everyday that "tried to kill themselves." Ooooh, they took TWO Tylenol w/codeine and a WHOLE bottle of vitamin C. A real attempt. :p If you need help seek it, else please remove yourself from the roster of the living; there's precious little oxygen to go 'round as it is.

When I was going through Marine Corps boot camp, the "kind drill instructor" told us the PROPER way to kill ones self with a razor blade!

I always thought that was real nice of him! ;)

I read a set of books several years back written by a Dr. James Moody.

He had done research on people that had had near death experiences, and in some cases had actually been dead for some period of time.

In his second book "Reflections on Life after Life" (His first book being called "Life after Life") there were stories from people that had tried to kill themselves.

They all said that while they had been "Dead" it was a BAD experience! (Contrary to those who had died of "Natural" causes, for whom the experience had been universally GOOD.) They said all the pain and suffering they had been trying to escape was still there after death!

I have been tempted many times over the years to end it all, but the words of those people have always come back to haunt me. After reading those books I would NEVER try and kill myself!

And another thing that has changed in my life from reading those books!
I'm no longer afraid of death.

If any of you have the time, and desire to read these books. I highly recommend them!!

I just heard a statistic today in which (not sure of the exact number) many people attempting suicide suffer from alcoholism..... a depressent and a real disease.

Haven't experienced much outside of your imaginary box have you? If you already know that a failed attempt means they are seeking help then why would you have the attitude of such an ass? You sound like you have lead a very sheltered life and for that i'm sorry but maybe a little compassion for others might help with your closed minded attitude.

I know, I know, you've been through hell and back and if only I could know your strife I would see things through your hardened eyes. Save it. People like you will get yours when it comes time for someone to help you when you need it, and I truly hope they give you as much help as you would give to them if they were in need of assistance.

I love dissension in these threads.

My 2 cents: In March of this year, I attended a forensic anthropology seminar with a girl I dated earlier this year. One lecture was on the question suicide or homicide. One slide was of this poor guy who tried to kill himself with a nine round pistol to his head. The first shot didn't kill him nor did the other eight bullets. He actually died from blood loss.

I can only imagine that this guy thought himself so much a loser that he wanted to end his life and as he died a slow death, I wonder if he thought he was a real loser for not doing it properly.

I think anyone who commits suicide is a coward. If you can't go through life without moaning and complaining about how dreary and unfair and depressing your life is, by all means, kill yourself. There enough problems in this world without listening to someone bitch and moan about their life. Call me callous by all means, I don't care. I have my own life, and that of my wife, to worry about, without caring if some punk decides to call attention to his/herself by trying to slit their wrists. Do the right thing, get some bloody help, and quit yer bloody bellyachin..
