Multiple Sound Cards....Sound at the same time?

I posted this on another forum but no one has answered it so I assume no one knows how to do this on the other forum.

I am pretty sure this can be done on xp. But I am not sure how to do this on vista. I have multiple audio devices. Now one of them is my logitech keyboard and mouse reciever that has a built in speaker (and assuming a built in sound card). The other is my spdif output.

I use the logitech 80% of the time and the spdif when im watching a movie on the plasma (i have two displays).

Is there a way to have both running at the same time? Or atleast assign it so when I use certin applications that the sound automaticly goes to the optical output? Right now I have to keep switching my default device.

The only way to do it is to have a program that has an assignable sound device. You might have to search around a bit to find software for everything you need sound to run on.

Im not sure im following what your saying. So there is a program to assignes sound device function? Or that the only way is to use software that gives me this option?

The main thing I need is Windows Media Center to go though the optical.

Some programs allow you to pick which sound device they use. These programs can use whichever sound card you tell them to.

I don't believe windows media center has this capability.

If you got a set of desktop speakers you could get a sound card that outputs digital and analog at the same time if you currently don't have a mobo that supports that.

Thanks for all the help; no speakers are not an option as this is in the living room (HTPC), I would need to run an analog all the way to the desk. I will keep searching; I remember something about a batch file but dont remember where I read it.
