Alright so my system is rather old (http://www.anandtech.com/mysystemrig.aspx?rigid=10342 everything is up to date except its WinXP now and I have a few more HDs)

I've been playing Quake Wars lately and my system can barely run it. A friend of mine gave me a stick of 512 PC2100 ram to help out, whenever I install it alongside my PC3200 512 though my system won't boot. It boots a single time and tells me everything is configged wrong basically, my cpu underclocks itself to 1250 mhz (no idea why) and after this one chance at the bios, regardless of what I set (including loading the fail safes) it will always fail to boot afterwards giving me 1 long beep.

Both sticks work fine individually, just not in conjunction and I would really like to have them both running. I set the CPU FSB/RAM ratio to be 266 mhz manually but still no dice.

I checked on the GeiL website and it states their ram should be able to be underclocked so that shouldn't be an issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I haven't messed with/kept up to date w/ computers for a few years so forgive me if it is something obvious.

check the voltage requirements

one stick may need more volts, and the other stick won't boot with too much volts.

I don't actually know how to do that, I'm now seeing that info anywhere on site.

The other stick of ram is Mushkin

I don't know how to do it on an AMD rig, but if you can, slow down your Memory Bus to reflect PC 2100 speed, and hope that the PC 3200 module can run this slow.

Otherwise, you're out of luck.
