Multiple errors when normally browsing - jpg, ssl, etc

Last night I started having problems using the internet on this computer. YouTube will stop playing. (I have a 30/5mbit connection) Pages that require SSL will give an error in opera or will just display completely blank in Firefox. Downloads do not complete or are corrupted when they finish ten minutes later for small files. I tried to download Firefox six different times to see if it was Opera before I gave up and used a USB drive to get it from my laptop. Also, most interestingly, JPG images become corrupted. There are some screenshots down lower. Super annoying. Also..

-speedtest.net comes back at appropriate speed
-SSL test comes back passed every time
-SSL not disabled in either browser
-pages that have a load process like gmail never finish
-uploads fail - like the images here took multiple tries before I gave up and used the laptop
-my PC is hardwired into the router, but the laptop and all smart phones can use the internet flawlessly

I keep Avast up to date and comes back clean after a scan. Opera was kept up to date, and since I just downloaded Firefox, it's up to date too. I use the windows firewall but windows defender is disabled. Browsers are on the exception list here. All drivers are up to date. There has been no recent driver installs or new programs downloaded. I also know what type of sites will get me spyware or malware, I have plugins on my browsers to help with this, and I am the only user of this PC. Please help, my internet image addiction is suffering. ='(

Is it possible to run avast in safe mode? If not you may want to run a scan with a different AV from a USB drive such as this http://avg-rescue-usb.en.softonic.com/
. Also do you have a restore point set in Win 8 that you can roll back to (prior to the issues)? BTW nice job setting up the multiple pics on IMGUR.
 
to me, it seems like there's an SSL setting somewhere that's referencing port 80, when in fact it should be port 443.

I will try the AVG USB utility when I get off work tonight.
I try to avoid using restore points to fix problems. It seems more like a temporary band-aid at best. I've never really had an issue fixed from doing one.
I also checked my DNS server and everything is ok there.

Everything sounds like malware, not just a simple setting.

Whenever I've seen for instance certain image types not displaying in browsers it's always been a file association problem, there are websites out there with registry patches to put the association back to the default, but it's always been caused by malware or adware or a virus, trojan, or whatever else dozen classification they can be.
 
ketchup79 you are the winner! Thank you! I already tried disabling all extensions, but not the antivirus. I turned it off and like magic, everything works. This is actually the second time that my Avast install has been corrupted in some way that has impacted my internet access. Last time I had no access at all. I'm thinking about maybe switching to a different a.v. instead of reinstalling this time.

Glad I could help. If you are comfortable using it, Microsoft Security Essentials offers fine protection for me. Most of it just comes down to safe browsing habits.
