This week is the first time ive utilized multiple displays for my desktop. today is the third day and i noticed that my nvidia based video card is running at full throttle even at idle desktop.

Before i try troubleshooting i was wondering if its normal for my video card to be flaring at full throttle as if i were playing a 3D game, under idle circumstances?

Inno3d GTX 260/216
NEC MultiSync 1970GX - DVI connected.
SAMSUNG SyncMaster 940T - Analog>DVI Adapter Connected.

-Single display the video card properly throttles down to 200mhz core when idle at the desktop.

-2 Displays the video card stays at full throttle 576mhz core when idle at the desktop.

Is this normal?

yes, im using latest drivers for my system 182.50.

It really bothers me seeing the video card on "3D High" mode all the time while using 2 displays, and it doesnt seem like a normal function.

Well the card does have to do more work to run 2 diplays. Weather or not being in 3D high is normal i don't know. I've not seen any Nvidia card that has to step up the prossessing that much for dual displays. But then i'm not really pushing allot of resolution either. I have one 1650x1280 and a 1200x1024 i believe. Its a 22" wide and a 19" regular on a 7900GS.

Heck my old 7300GT didn't work that hard on those same monitors.

if all else fails, get rivatuner and set the clock and fan speeds manually for 2d and 3d.
