And it doesn't crash ;)

Luckily you didn't put up a linky, or people might bother trying it out. *HINT* *HINT*

Someone else suggested Go Screen, which I'm going to try. www.eol.ca/~andgur/software/goscreen.html

I didn't like PowerToys, it was too resource intensive. I have a 1.2g duron w/384 mb of ram in XP , and it took much longer than I would have liked to switch between desktops. GoScreen is small, but it's a little different.

I didn't want to mess with setting up a new shell like litestep or geoshell yet. If it comes to that, then I'll do it.

Even if you can have more than one desktop in Windows, have you have more than one terminal? I mean, In Linux I have several terminals, with only one is dedicated to GUI. Ctrl + Alt + F1 through F6 are CLI-terminals (tty1 - tty6). I can log in as different users and run programs. Ctrl + Alt + F7 is X, which can then be divided in to several desktops. Usually, I have apt-get updating my system in tty1 (first terminal) while I work in X.

Windows is GUI-based, therefore it has only virtual desktops. In Geoshell you switch between desktops using Win|1-4.

<< I ran PowerToys a couple of installs ago, but does anybody know how much the virtual desktops will slow your system down, or how many resources it takes? Knowing MS.......I'm worried. >>

CPU Usage with IE and MIRC running, no vdesktop manager, 2% (average).

CPU Usage with MIRC, IE, and desktop manager: 2% (average)

Are there any managers for windows that allow you to switch desks by moving your mouse to the edge of the screen?

GoScreen was perfect. Did exactly what I wanted. The only problem was that it would die when an IE window spawned a pop-up, even one like the box to put an http link here...

Litestep can have up to 99 desktops(that's the most I've seen implemented in a Litestep theme)!!

Helpme: Litestep can do that, I hate switching that way, so I disable it.

But how about without replacing the shell?

helpme: I'm not sure you can, for Litestep is a shell replacement. Litestep's shell can be almost anything though. There are WinXP, MacOS, Linux, and many custom made interfaces to choose from.
