multiple computer problems

Hello, I built this comptuer nearly two years ago, the only thing I have since installed is a new graphics card (dec '02). Starting yesterday, my computer has started to experience some major problems. It will randomly restart with no warning, upon restarting, if I choose to skip the disk check, the computer will freeze. At times, when windows goes to boot up the startup process will freeze and say 'lsass.exe This is not a valid end point' or something to that degree. Sometimes starting up in safe mode will freeze the computer entirely. Now, the computer will be working fine, I'll leave it on to go watch TV or something, come back, and programs like the Task Manager won't be working anymore. I will get errors when I try to start them back up. This really is confusing to me since everything has worked fine since yesterday. I performed a virus scan using Norton '02 with virus definitions updated on the 20th, it found nothing. I am thinking it is a hardware problem but I have no idea how to find out. Here's what I'm running:

1.3 ghz AMD Athlon T-bird
512 PC133 SD DDRRAM
Radeon 9700 Pro
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
DFI AK75EC Mobo

have you thought about actually going through the diskcheck? It is a good idea you know...

I do go through the diskcheck, it's the only way the computer will start up, if I skip it, the computer freezes. The problems I'm experiencing happen even after the disk check.

Doing a search on google for lsass.exe gives many pages of problems with that file. Maybe one of them has info that could help.

Sounds to me that the hard drive is on it's way down the long, lonely road to ruin. If you prob is always that file, possibly a re-load (or re-format) is in order. It will at least give you an idea if the HDD is good or bad or getting bad IMHO.
