Multiple AVI's -> DVD?

I've got around 10 avi's that I'd like to burn to a playable DVD. I know I could just cat them all together and convert the file, but then I wouldn't be able to skip through files.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of thing?

you will need to convert each one to a DVD compliant mpeg2 file.

Then imoprt each one to a authoring program such as TMPGEnc DVD Author. I would suggest looking for version 1.6

Convert them to a DVD folder then burn to DVD

So with the DVD Authoring program, I can put multiple files together so they all burn on the same CD, but still allow me to skip through each?

Yes.

Sweet. Thanks guys. Made my life a lot easier.

Now I just need to find some software that'll convert rmvb -> avi/mpeg that'll run in Linux with or without WINE. ~_~

mencoder can probably do it but I don't know the exact command line. That may take a while to figure out.

I don't understand the logic behind these conversions.

I've got two files.
File #1 is an .avi @ 175MB's.
File #2 is an .avi @ 174MB's.

File #1 converted to .mpg @ 473MB's.
File #2 is converting to .mpg and it's @ 550MB's and counting.

They're both from the same source. I don't understand why one would be that much bigger than the other.

If its VBR that would explain the differnt file size.

What format are the avi's in? Divx? Xvid? mpeg4?
Most modern DVD players can already play those formats. Problem for me is we have .mkv's and .ogm's which prevent them from playing :p

Don't know about putting them together though.
But if you want a regular DVD with menu's or just to play in any dvd player just keep on doing what your doing :)

Essentially, MPEG2 consists of a full frame and then frames of the difference from the full frame until then next full frame. If there is little movement in the scenes, the differences are small, so less info to store. Heavy action and panning, bigger differences.
