Multiple Audio Outputs in Vista

I'm running Vista x64 on my i7 with a 4850. I am currently running my computer speakers through the mobo's optical out and my tv speakers through my 4850's HDMI out. I have a spare "X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro" card in one of my other rigs that I could move to this one if need be.

Is there any way to get simultaneous audio output?, For example, if I want to have a tv show or movie on the tv while I am playing music or a game on my computer, is that possible in vista?

From my understanind Vista isn't able to support that.

Unfortunately you can't output everything to multiple sound devices. What you can do with some programs is send the sound to a specific sound device. e.g. your media player can play a movie and output just the movie sound via HDMI to your TV, while your other PC sound comes from your regular speakers.

I actually prefer it this way - my head gets confused unless just the TV sound comes from the TV. Can't remember which program to use to do this in Vista. I recall in XP I was able to configure Windows Media Player to work in this way, with just movie sound going to the TV, but when I switched to Vista I had to change to another media program as WMP couldn't do it any more. I think I ended up using Winamp and/or VLC Player.

If anyone could hook me up with the name of a specific media player that would allow me to do this, I'd really appreciate it. I use WMP, VLC, and Winamp regularly, but I can't seem to find the right menu/options to get this done

What about in Windows 7, would I be able to accomplish this?
