My bro has verizon DSL.

He is using an ECS K7S5A w/ athlon 1600+ and onboard NIC.

Whenever he tries to access Mdeal of Honor games via gamespy, the servers show up and list their pings, but timeout when he attempts to enter the game.

He is able to use other peer to peer progs such as morpheus without error.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is he running some kind of firewall software? ZoneAlarm/Sygate Personal Firewall will ask you if you'd like to give permission for a certain program to access the internet. Sometimes, you accidentally choose "No" and the firewall will remember that choice and block that certain app from accessing the internet.

Nope, he has no firewall at all.

He has a DLink router, but no firewall turned on. I didn't even think to tell him to try going straight to the modem without the router. I guess thats worth a shot, but it should work anyway so I'd still like to resolve it if that is indeed the issue.

Can anybody explain, in a relatively simple manner, what the main difference would be between some other direct connection like morpheus and a game? I don't know a whole ton about networking, but I thought it was strange that one of those worked and the other didn't.

gracias,

Could be the game, gamespy or router.

Best way to find out is to rule things out. Take router out of equation and see.

Can he play any other multiplayer games?

Games, file sharing programs etc all use different ports to access your computer. Could be something like that.
