i need a player for divx, dvd's, mp3's, n stuff.

i've decided to go down the motherboard route, rather than off-the-shelf dvd player route.

Haven't been in the hardware biz for 12 months but would an nforce(4?) board be the best sort of thing for this?

gotta have...

good onboard sound
good onboard 3d graphics (I'll also have NFSUnderground on it)

I'll be getting a hauppauge USB tv tuner. I'd assume the fastest DDR 512 i can findwill work too?

PS, it won't be in a case :) thats y the need for onboard.

If you're encoding video into DivX, Intel's processors typically do that a bit faster.

Sorry, onboard graphics won't run Doom3. Well, it might walk Doom3, but you get my meaning. The GPUs on mobos are usually quite weak, but the real deal killer is the fact that there is usually no dedicated memory. Onboard graphics will instead suck a miniscule amount of system RAM across an extremely slow system bus.
