Well guys, I missed out on the almost free chair, but one thing did come out of that thread for me. Earlier in the week I had gone chair shopping at Office Depot and when I went to look at the website with the coupon links, low and behold, I found a coupon for $50 off one of the contenders. You can combine that coupon with the $25 off of any chair over $100. At least it worked for me and I'm sitting in it right now. If you read the big thread about the Free Chair, then you'll know where to look for the coupon codes. (Hint: Look at the very first post in that thread.)
Scroll down towards the bottom and you'll see a listing for $50 off of a Raynor Maverick multifunction chair. Then find the general $25 off of any chair over $100. I was able to use both coupons to get it for $105. The lowest in-store price was $170 - $25 = $145. (In terms of after sales tax dolalrs, I saved $42.40, ending my agony over which chair to get.)
Here's the chair in black:

If that doesn't work, go to the website and search for "maverick". Black and Gray seem to be available for $180, Red and Blue for $200. (The two coupons should net you $75 off of that with free delivery, I assume.)
I think it's a pretty decent price for one of these chairs. Of course, you should go visit your local Office Depot and kick the casters on it first. As was discussed in the Free Chair thread, your best bet is probably to order it since it's unlikely that the UPS driver will disallow your $50 or $25 coupon but a store manager might. It has a whopping six control knobs underneath it. One for height, one for the seat angle, one for the back angle, one for sliding the seat back and forth (increasing or decreasing the space to the back cushion), one to prevent rocking too far forward, and one for the tilt tenson. (Yes, you can rock/tilt in it.) The neck cusion is also supposed to move up and down but mine won't seem to hold it up. The lumbar support could also be a little bit better. The arm rests can move in and out and up and down. The chair doesn't rise up as much as I would like, but I found that I wasn't using it at its max height when sitting at my computer anyway. (I think they limited the max height to keep it from tipping when a user leans back all the way.)
So, if you've been looking for an articulating ("multifunction") task chair, this might be the one. Also, check Staples since they have one with a mesh back on sale this week for $130 (use a coupon to lower it further). I think the Maverick is a little more substantial than the one at Staples, but the one at Staples does have the squishy-foam seat material that I like. You can also get a cheaper Raynor articulating chair for $75 ($100 - $25). (Search for "patriot" at the OD website.) I'd take the Maverick for $30 over the price of the Patriot.
One thing to consider is whether it could end up as too much of a toy. You could spend too much time fiddling with the settings instead of just sitting in it and getting your work done (or your screwing around at newsgroups done). I found a couple other chairs I liked at OD, too. (There's a high back chair which has that soft, squishy seat and back--it's like foam covered with a mesh. That was $105 after the $25 coupon. I also saw a nice taupe leather chair (Global) for $135 after the $25 coupon.) Of course, YMMV.
