multichannel sound, gimmick or goodie?

My onkyo receiver is dying, it might be time to buy another receiver. Should I get another stereo amp or do I get a multichannel one? If it helps any, I use the system almost exclusively for listening to music and I do have 4 speakers, if I go multichannel, I'd probably just need to buy a center speaker.

If you'll use it for TV or a DVD player, then go for it. If just for music, most receivers will give you A and B speaker outputs, but music isn't multi-channel anyway.

its its just for music, you dont need the 4 channel or 5.1 channel reciever.

if your gonna watch dvds with it, you might as well get it now, as opposed to getting a stereo reciever now, then another multi-channel later.
