Multi monitor question

Half the time I don't even turn my second monitor on, so it's annoying to have new windows open on the 2nd screen where I can't even see them. I want to turn of Windows' "memory" of where an app was when I last closed it and just open it on my primary monitor all the time. Is this possible?

Thanks for the responses but those aren't really the solutions I'm looking for. Disable/enable secondary would be acceptable if there was a faster way to do it, like a hotkey or a shortcut on my task bar. I'd rather that all windows would just open on monitor 1.

I hate this too. I wish there was an easy way to either:

1: Make all apps ALWAYS open on same monitor, and child windows open on same monitor as app (so if you drag your email client, you open an email, it does not go to other monitor, I HATE that)

2: select which apps open where.

I have yet to find a way to do this. In linux there is a mode where you can make each monitor act independantly so it has it'is own start menu and all, though the downside of that is not being able to drag windows to the other. Not sure if windows has this ability.
