Multi-media 5.1 speakers

Since my aging Klipsch 4.1's have finally taken a dive, it's time to move on. I'm pretty set on these. The price is amazing for what you get and they review very well. Opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Frankly, I know what sounds good but I'm not into speaker jargon. 😉

I have the 5300's and thse should be a little better, I feel for the money the Logitechs are pretty damn good.

I've been very happy with z5500's for the last 2 years.

One thing I noted is that the bass is boomy so I had to tweak some control settings and some settings in windows early on when I was setting it up.....but some of this depends on configuration and size of the room that they'll be in.

As noted in other posts, if you have more money to spare the promedia ultra 5.1 is another option and great set to use with your audigy 2zs.

You wont not like the z-5500's but remeber speaker upgrades see many computers. That and the monitor should never be settled for 🙂

The first review at your link, that's the same thing that happened to my 4.1's. I guess I'm kind of pissed at Klipsch too. They won't repair, replace or even let me buy a new sub. They say they don't make parts for the 4.1 anymore.

Same thing happened to mine, I bought the 550's and couldn't be happier, paired with the audigy x-fi they sound really good.

Makes you wonder why they've decided not to maintain them, doesn't it?

I went from the original Klipsch Promedia v-2.400 speakers to the Logitech 5500's a few months ago for my gaming rig, with an Audigy 2 soundcard as well. Sonically, I prefer the sound of the Klipsch, the satellites sound clearer and more crisp. The bass on the Logitech is more muddled and boomier it seems. That's not to say the Logitech's are bad, but the Klipsch were just better IMHO. But the Logitech still sound killer and are a great purchase, I never realized how nice it was to have a center channel for games.

I've been itching to have a center channel for a while now. Can you describe the effect, Boogak? I'm starting to think that going with these may not be a bad idea. From what I understand, you can add a second sub AND Klipsch has dual-cone satalites that you can retrofit in. 🙂

The center channel just adds a bit more immersiveness to the gaming experience. I guess I'm so used to 5.1 DVD movie sound I always felt there was a sound "void" when gaming with my 4 channel Klipsch. Now when there's something exploding in front of me, it sounds directly in front of me.

Hmm, back in the day when I had 2x 2.1 systems, whenever the subamp killed over, they just sent me a 2.1 system for free, and i shippied them my broken 2.1 system without needing to pay shipping costs. Even outside of the warantee! Im sorry to hear your lack of luck with them.

I bought my Promedia 5.1 from bestbuy. When the headphone thing stopped working, I went to bestbuy and they only had Ultra5.1 so that was settled.

I would recommend the Ultra5.1. Its pretty beefy and I never had any problems with it. Then again, I sold it over a year ago to another forum member since I have moved on to more serious speakers.
