We've seen how quad cores improve multi-gpu performance versus dual core even in games that don't support them.

So far all of the gaming benchmarks I've seen they've only used single GPUs when comparing the Sandy Beach Hex Cores vs Nehalem Quads. Are the drivers there right now insofar as Crossfire/SLI support on hex cores or is performance differences negligible? Just wondering if anyone has any experience.

I have an i7 920 (OCed) and wondering if I should spring for an i7 970. Using CF 6970s.

Sandy Bridge hex-cores haven't been released yet; a Westmere hex-core with a high OC is comparable to SB in gaming, but Nehalem quads (and everything else much more so) fall behind SB. #2 in my SIG was pretty damned expensive, but loses to a 2600K in most games, and thats with 24 threads... Handbrake and CS5 is another matter.
