I have the dvd. I think it's a movie that tries waaay too hard to be "artsy". It makes no sense, but it tries very hard to convince you that it does. It's kinda like the emporer's new clothes, everyone is scared to say they dont get it, but there is NOTHING there to get. I now have a dvd for sale. PM me. 🙂

I am 2 minutes away from finishing ripping this film to my computer and was just wondering what everyone or anyone thought about it. I have many friends who say that this film is probably the most weird thought provoking messed up movie. Almost all of them refuse to watch it again because they said they would go nuts, they couldn't even walk straight after watching it the first time.

I am a HUGE movie fan and watch movies over and over again looking for new levels and new intellectual highs and depth. Movies like Adaptation, Donnie Darko, Pi, Seven Samurai, etc.

Adaptation can keep me talking for hours, there are soo many levels of enjoyment and perceivement in this movie that you would have to watch it 10 times to understand everything. If anyone wants to chat about it let me know and I'll give you me AIM or something. Great Film, I hope Mulholland Dr. Does the same.

I LOVE .. absolutely LOVE interesting and thought provoking movies.. Donnie Darko, Adaptation, Pi, Requiem for a Dream(have you seen it? If you've seen Pi, it's also by Aronofsy(sp?).. fantastic film) were all amazing, I loved each one and have 'em all on DVD.. I even have Mulholland Dr on DVD.. but I really just don't like it.. it doesn't do anything for me.. nothing compared to those other movies IMHO.

err, you're grouping donnie darko with PI??? that's... wow. Aronofsky is so much better.

Mullholland drive was excellent. IMO, not quite the achievement of Lost Highway, but still one of lynch's best. Some people find it a touch cryptic, but it's really not that hard to decipher when you think about a little while. Of course that's part of the pleasure so if you don't enjoy deciphering iconography while reveling in lynch's quiet, focused world, well then this movie isn't for you.

I find it particularly weird that people find this movie so anachronistic.

for the lazy people:

sequence 1 = dream

sequence 2 = reality for slightly psychotic heroine.

that wasn't so hard was it?

I hate when people don't understand movies and use the "omg it's way too artsy and pretentious" routine. David Lynch creates movies that actually make you think.

Enjoy it more than because it's 'fuct'

why? because it's some highminded expression of the fear of fatherhood?

I'd argue the primary virtue of eraserhead actually lies in lynch's aesthetic. It's the cold silences in conversations. It's negative space. And that's what's fuct.

Total f*#king garbage. The lesbian scene was good but the movie was utterly devoid of anything meaningful and, most importantly, a plot. To say this movie was pointless one would be merely scratching the surface of the uselessness of it.

agreed.. what a waste of a night.

What did this movie make you think about? (Aside from lesbians)

See also, the HOLLYWOOD SETTING.

Do some research into the origins of the movie, specifically the TV show it was based off of.

Wait wait wait, they said they couldn't walk straight after watching it? Do me a favor, hit them in the face with a brick. Then when they regain consciousness do it again. The movie was strange, and pretty interesting, but utterly amazing and totally mind blowing? Hell no. Plus Naomi Watts nekkid is a plus.

ie: randomness?

again with the complaints about coherence. And we wonder why the movie market is inundated with absolutely mind numbing comedies about farting. ohh I get the joke!!!

Quoted for truth. I haven't seen a worthwhile movie in the theatres in SO long.

you saying the only good director is lynch? i disagree, there are many other directors that are better.

its like those that see a few spatters of paint on canvas as art. is a painting on leonardo or dali mind numbing farting?

lol. that doesn't even faintly resemble what I was saying. but for the sake of argument, who're the "good" directors?

Ha this is interesting. I rented tonight and just finished watching it. Since it's so fvcked up I hit the forums.

David Lynch movies aren't the typical US movie that you can leave your brain at the door. They make you think.

Actually Mulholland Drive is one of Lynch's easier to follow films. I didn't think it was too weird. It was suppose to be a TV series and the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the movie was the pilot for TV. After the networks passed Lynch decided to make it a movie and went back and shot the remaining portion.
I think that's a copout saying that it's not a movie to leave your brain at the door. I followed the movie. It was quite easy to follow. There was just nothing to see. As ebert said
Having told you all of that, I've basically explained nothing. The movie is hypnotic; we're drawn along as if one thing leads to another--but nothing leads anywhere, and that's even before the characters start to fracture and recombine like flesh caught in a kaleidoscope. "Mulholland Drive" isn't like "Memento," where if you watch it closely enough, you can hope to explain the mystery. There is no explanation. There may not even be a mystery.
Yes, but what there is is an imminently forgettable movie. Except for the lesbian scene.
If you require logic, see something else.
Yep.
Individual scenes play well by themselves, as they do in dreams, but they don't connect in a way that makes sense--again, like dreams.
Exactly what i'm saying. Meaningless and plotless.

Wow, I bet it sure is nice to so off-handedly discard something as pointless....now, if only I thought you spent more than 5 minutes in places other than this message board I might pay attention to your comments and criticism, but seeing as how one could nearly account for 95 percent of a NORMALS persons day in the amount of posts you spew out on the forums, I think I'll just take a page from your book and say that because I simply didn't enjoy your "review", it was pointless, plotless, and imminently forgettable.
