I figure it's too late to call them up and see what this will cost tonight, but how much would it be to get a catalytic converter put on?

I bought a universal replacement for my F150 and it looks like the new one is a lot shorter than the stock unit. I'm assuming they'll have to weld it and some filler pipe. I'm just looking for a rough estimate of what to expect so I don't walk in and get taken by scam artists.

I was hoping I could just use some clamps. :(

Thanks.

I needed a new muffler on my BMW 325 ragtop (damn highway debris) and stopped at a Midas - $1,150 for some generic aftermarket universal fit! I called my local independent BMW shop and got a nice OEM replacement for $400 installed.

Cliffs - shop around.

Always good advice. I'm just wondering what a simple weld & pipe would cost to make something like that fit. I would guess it would be $40, but then again....I'm living in the 1990s.

$60-75

1 hr labor plus cost of materials

You might be able to save $5-10 by shopping around

Careful, if the new unit is designed for a smaller capacity engine it could cause you to lose performance and, more importantly, cause you to fail emissions tests.
