Mud on my leather jacket... :-(

I just noticed I got mud on the corner of my leather jacket. :(

I'm currently letting it dry & picking it off in pieces & lightly brushing it with a napkin. Am I taking the right approach? Or should I just take a wet napkin to it?

The leather has been treated with water repellant (It's been thoroughly blasted by rain before with no trouble), but I dunno if that would just force the muddy solution into the leather.

Anybody know the proper way to deal with this?

What kind of leather is it? If it is suede, you are doing it right. If it is lambskin/cowhide/deerskin (smooth leather) just use a damp cloth, then re-treat that area with a water repellant.

Good idea...a greyed leather jacket will match the rest of Viper GTS's repertoire.

It's smooth leather, I guess I need to go grab some warm water & order another can of water repellant.

Thanks.

:)

are you sure its mud?

Yes, I'm sure it's mud. This is Oregon, it rains 8 months out of the year. There's mud everywhere.

Maybe you should have it done proffesionally. Take it to the place that dry cleans all your dresses.

Blot as much off as you can with a damp cloth, then if there's still residue, let it dry and give it a buff with a clean cloth or a very, very soft brush (like a shoe shine brush).

If you've got a lot of mud on it though, there are cleaners you can buy at shoe stores. They're sort of like a lotion - not too expensive. Or you can have it professionally done.

I used to work for a furrier - they cleaned a lot of leather.

That's a good idea, I was impressed by the job they did on your panties. Who'd have known motor oil would leave such nasty stains in silk?

The best way to get mud off a leather jacket is to place the jacket in a pentagram that has a candle at each point. Light each candle while chanting the hare krishna chant and circle the jacket three times. Then throw the jacket away and apologize to the dead cow that died to serve your fashion sense.

Use a moist cloth to clean off the mud, dry it as best you can with another cloth and then apply some leather conditioner to the area. That should pretty much do the trick.
