MUCH MORE MEMORY PROBLEMS (*Fixed!*)

Ok, I enable Large System Cache (Server) in my Registry and my computer goes bonkers! most errors are about not being able to address the memory. I dont see how this is a problem because my total memory is within the 4GB addressing range. BTW, This problem first started when I installed 1GB of memory.

Physical = 1GB
Virtual = 1.5GB
Total = 2.5GB

Can someone tell me whats wrong? The system crashes untill I go into safe mode, run scandisk, make filesystem corrections, and restart.

Please?

Cats don't play well with large system cache. Leave it OFF.

I was thinking the same thing. Download and run memtest86 in either diskette or bootable (ISO image) CD-ROM format and run it through a couple cycles. Sounds like bat memory to me.

What he said. I was getting HD errors every couple of months having to do system restores and a format. Until I read about it on the rage3d forum. No more errors since I've disabled large system cache.

Ok, two more quesitions, you guys have confused me!

1) What do you mean by "Large System Cache dosent do well with cats"? Do you mean Catalyst drivers, which is what I use?

2) What is "bat" memory? I will download and run MemTest86 tonight if I can find a floppy disk thats not blown...

Yes catalyst drivers. I would restart and get a bunch of hard drive errors popping up.

Ok, thanks! Im acutually using Omega's 3.5 Catalysts, since they rock in Performance Mode. Anyways...

I ran MemTest86 for 10:30 hours last night and got 0 errors! 🙂 (2.5-2-2-5-1T @ 2.7) So it must be hard drive corruption since nothing else in my system is overclocked. I'm gonna reinstall Windows XP ASAP and keep Large System Cache off.
