oh, yes.

does anyone else think they should remake the original dune movie?

with better casting, better budget, better special effects, and more intertwining plotlines?

the new one has the intertwining plot lines, but the old one had better casting. (aside from paul... damn hippy long-hairs...) well.. that, and i like the blade idea better than that silly sound thing. "My name is a killing word", lol. 😛

Use the quality of the first movie, make it more true to the books, then add todays special effects 🙂

I guess it would be hard as hell though to pull it off nicely, the books are very detailed

well there was the original, and there was frank herberts dune, along with children of dune. i like herberts better, cuz its newer.
its kinda sucked that the desert scene was obviously a stage. hahhaha

it's the only futuristic movie that doesnt have us ending up as some communist state. (star trek)

however, it does end with us becoming some variant of islam.

yeah, i know the books are detailed...

i wouldnt mind a 5 hour movie. i seriously wouldnt.

even an 8 hour movie.
 
Hell yes! What I would really like to see are Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse Dune because Miles Teg would kick some serious ass.

maybe. but there's something to be said for the original. i want that one redone.
 
I loved Dune and everything about it. But it really wasn't "Us" in Dune. It never mentioned Earth or Earthlings or even humans. We naturally put our human persona on the characters, where in Star Trek, it is the Human race, of Earth, that boldly goes....

Anyway, yes, I would love to see another Dune, and all of the rest of the Dune books made into movies. Gaaah! Now I have to read the books again! Thanks Walleye!!!

it would be hard for us to assosciate with the characters were they not human. or at least, humanoid.

and besides, it was only a joke (about the muslim thing)

In God Emperor of Dune, it mentions that Leto II lost his Humanity, and heres the heading of a chapter in that book:

Our ancestor, Assur-nasir-apli, who was knows as the cruelest of the cruel, siezed the throne by slaying his own father and starting the reign of the sword. His conquests included the Urumia Lake region, which led hom to Commagene and Khabur. His son recieved tributed from the Shuites, from Tyre, Sidon, Gebel, and even from Jehu, son of Omri, whos very name struck terror into thousands. The conquests which began with Assur-nasir-apli carried arms into Media and later into Israel, Damascus, Edom, Arpad, Babylon, and Umlias Does anyone remember these names and places now? I have given you enough clues, try to name the planet -The Stolen Journals, Leto II

Leto could only have experienced that memory if his ancestors were humans, and from the way the books imply, the human race hasnt changed much physically (unless you count the spice turning humans into guild navigators etc.)

Yeah I'm a big fan of the series 🙂

actually, they remade the dune movie, and turned 2 of the other books into movies.

(children of dune, and one other)

and they arent a mini-series.
