did anyone watch this last night? They followed four people (in three segments) that were moving to NYC.

The first was a spoiled brat who pretty much had her rent payed for by her parents and still managed to spend more then she made every week. She kept saying that she wanted to be "out on her own" while spending ungodly amounts of money on clothes. Then she called daddy when they got a $500 electric bill.

The second was a 'male model' from Wisconsin who didn't get a job and only had to show up at appointments but was frequently late and even slept through one. He ended up losing his contract because (stick with me) when he went back to Wisconsin to sort out a bench warrant preventing him from leaving the country, he was arrested and had to wait for his hearing while out on bond. Idiot.

The third group actually did pretty well, despite having to work nonstop just to get by, they definately had their act together.

My question is how stupid are people to think that they can just go to NYC and survive and do a lot of people just move somewhere and figure out the whole job situation later on?

Yes a lot of people do this. They save up enough to make the trip and try their hand at modeling, singing, acting. If they don't make it, they either move back to where they came from or doing service jobs such as waiters, busboys, valets while they still attempt to follow their dream.

Damn...more power to them but I don't think I could do that.

NYC like LA is not a place you "just move to" w/o having a job and living arrangments beforehand.

Made is a much better show.

MTV rocks.

I mean seriously, did anybody see the last two episodes of made? With the band geek becoming a varsity basketball player and the weird smart girl becoming a rapper?
I'm not joking when I say that I can't recall a more entertaining episode of anything.

The gay dating shows are also assured gold.

I can't stand Made. (Almost) every episode I've seen is

1) kid wants to be something crazy
2) kid struggles (as expected) and (almost) quits
3) kid (kind of / not really) accomplishes goal

I deleted MTV from my channel rotation, I advise you all to do the same.

Ha!

I liked MTV when they actually played music, then I stopped liking it when they basically stopped, continued because it was the cool thing to hate and never really gave it another shot.

I must admit I have come around to see the light, MTV is the one of the channels that I can rely on to provide quality entertainment. To be fair to myself, I don't actually enjoy the programing as it's meant to be enjoyed, but rather as a sadly amusing portrayal of the current state of affairs.

For I am a cynic and MTV is truly the heart of the beast and as a cynic I say there is no greater place to be.
I also love to watch Fox News.

Sure, I love to watch the History Channel, and South Park rocks along with Adult Swim's lineup, but in terms of entertainment MTV is very high up there.

I would get a job and then look for a place. Winging it like that is not my idea of fun.

I disagree with your premise, I think moving to the city of your dreams, with no real plan, is part of being young and risky. Sure it may not be the smartest thing to do, but you're young and can afford to take the risk. Many people "make the jump" and end up enjoying themselves, even if their destiny ends up being something totally different than what they imagined.

Strangest show on MTV is Sweet 16, who knew these parties existed? I mean, sure the ultra wealthy spend tons on a birthday party. But some of these families spending outrageous amounts of money don't appear to be upper middle class at best. $250k on a wedding is bad enough, but a 16th birthday party???

Perhaps we should differentiate between those that do STUPID RISKY ventures vs the ones that are WELL THOUGHT OUT/ SMART.
Pure determination coupled with no ingenuity = failure

I agree with the OP; guppies from the pond should not mingle in the shark infested seas.

Unless those guppies are mutated, ill-tempered guppies with lasers attached to their heads.

Yes I saw that. That model guy was a total moron, and the girl was as spoiled as they come. I love how her parents are paying most of her rent, then she complains about her electric bill saying she can't afford it. The next thing you know, she is spending $600 on a shirt and some shoes. What a total moron. Then she goes out and uses her mother's credit card to buy her friends drinks. Finally, we learn that she is living paycheck to paycheck. LOL total idiot IMO.

I still disagree, how many rags to riches stories have you heard that started off with "I got off the bus with $40 in my pocket?" Determination will actually get you quite far in this world, it's laziness and poor choices that will hurt you. Madonna is an extreme example of what risk taking can get you. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people that do risky things that also make really poor choices in their lives. But taking the risk alone isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not everybody wants to graduate college and go straight to working a 9-5 office job.

They are young. While you may call it "stupid risky," they don't really have much to lose.
