MTV - ruining another good band

So, apparently Fall Out Boy premiers on TRL today...they started out punk, signed with Fueled by Ramen and made a decent album, then they signed with Island and became pop-punk, and now they're on their way to mainstream MTV. RIP FOB. Come this fall I'm sure all the frat boys will be blaring them...here's to hoping they don't change completely. Damn you MTV, damn you to hell.

I don't think the band was ever good, nor has it changed any. It was always teh cookie cutter mainstream pop-punk crap.

"Cork Tree" is easily one of the best albums I've heard in 2005 thus far.

I *hate* "MarketedTV"....any band that appears there gets all these "I wanna be popular" fans and the ticket prices double to shows. At least I saw them in November w/ some other great bands while they were still allowed to be awesome.

Don't get me wrong, I would be totally lying to myself if I said I would turn down an offer to be on MTV (my band, that is) but it does suck as the consumer.

That's your opinion, but I'm almost positive you haven't heard any of their stuff before they signed with Ramen. They were never revivalists like Strung Out or NOFX, but they definately were not pop-punk. I'm happy they're becoming successful, but I just hate watching them go continuously down the drain.

MTV does suck, but for more reasons than this.

On a somewhat unrealted note, this past Sunday I saw The World/Inferno Friendschip Society at the Knitting Factory in NYC, and they were absolutely unbelievable.

They're also having a show with Leftover Crack and Morning Glory on July 19th at BB Kings on W 42nd St.

why are you blaming only MTV in your title ?

Because they're the medium which will lead to the complete downfall.

what? I have no idea what band you are talking about, i have not watched one minute of MTV in years. if you were not an idiot you would stop wasting your time thinking about some cable "music" channel and get a life. why don't you pick up a guitar and play some "real" music instead of whining?

The entire genre which we call "punk" started going down the drain ages ago. I base my "opinion" on their first album which sounds exactly like all the other pop-punk on the radio. I haven't heard their new stuff, so I can't comment on if its changed or how much. Maybe they are more pop-punk now then they were on their first album, but that doesn't mean they weren't pop'py before. Punk is dead, move on or start moving underground, the mainstream does this to every genre eventually and it happened a long a$$ time ago to punk.

Good for you, I haven't watched MTV in years either, I just got an e-mail from one of my friends who is signed with FBR letting me know. I do play music, whether you consider it "real" or not doesn't matter to me. It's sad seeing a complete change in a band that you've listened to from their underground days through their signing. People have different interests. Mine is music, yours is being a complete jackass.

I loved this band Alkaline Trio...4 great cds, they were awesome...I saw them on MTV and granted that the particular song/album wasn't bad, everything they have released since then has gone downhill...maybe bands just submit to MTV when they start running out of creative talent?

Punk isn't dead, it's branched off into different styles. There are still punk revivalists sticking to the true definition, though they are few and far between.

I don't care if more people listen to them, I care about them changing their style. Learn to read.
