Transferring large directories between my S5 and my gnu/linux computers has always been a little flaky. Friday I tried to transfer a 1gb directory to the music folder on my sdcard, and it just wouldn't work. My file manager would churn when opening the music dirdctory on the phone, and return an error of "unable to retrieve file handle(rs?)" or something like that. I ended up putting the folder on internal storage, and moved it over using my android file manager.
I fooled with it a bit this morning on my home machine, and got the same errors. On a whim, I created a music2 directory, and moved some of the folders to that. Both directories opened up lightning quick, and I could transfer the directories without issue.
My music folder is ~36gb total. I moved ~2gb over to the music2 folder. Is this an mtp or linux problem? I can't find any restrictions on folder sizes searching the web, but decreasing it a bit sure seemed to help; maybe just gremlins and coincidence?
