yep. Union Pacific has been doing a program called Operation Lifesaver for a long time to try to get people to stop running thru tracks

Stopping would not have made any difference. It'd take about a hundred yard or so to come to a complete stop. Oops.

I know how long it takes trains and i was stating that it wouldnt be abnormal with today's population and ignorance for someone to say

"my god why didnt the train just stop"

I hope you meant poor guy driving the train. He had to watch that happen and there was nothing he could do about it. If the idiot died he ruined the train engineer's life because now every time he closes his eyes he might be scarred with that vision.

Maybe the train was going where he needed to go, so he'll get there even faster. None of that PITA ticket BS to deal with.
Or maybe he's a repairman who needs to work on the front of the train. He's just making sure he's stuck fast, so he won't fall off while he's working.
