That's why I want the Mustang as my next car, even if I can only afford the base model. That said, BMWs certainly are a fun car to drive. I love taking the 323i we have at work out on the highway. Even though it's less than half the hp of the M3, it still goes like stink.

Ok so I read that and I don't see where the Mustang "trounces" the GTO. All I see is an author trying to claim it does with no facts to back it up. I also read the print version of that "comparo" in Motor Trend when it came out back in 2005. Here's the basic gist of both:

"So what was the Mustang's appeal? Well, we're suckers for a great body, and the Mustang looks a lot better than the GTO."

That's it? The Mustang looks better? Hahahahaha. The GTO outperformed the Mustang in nearly every category and they admit it. But the Mustang looks better. Well woweee. In the print article version of this they said the Mustang had "gotta have it" factor. To me the author just comes off as biased. The GTO is the better car by a long shot.

You said the 05 GTO had beaten an M3 6 years ago so it was no big deal. You made fun of Ford for taking so long to catch up. I showed that the 05 GT was right there with the 05 GTO...meaning it must also have been right with the M3 at the time. Certainly not far behind either car.

Except, it didn't. In the real world of performance, there is no "gotta have it factor" to balance out a clear loss and cover your ass so you don't have to explain how the car you picked as a top10 got beaten by the only other car in its category.

In straight line the 05 GTO is a low 13 second car easily. The 05 GT needs a good driver to even get in the mid 13's.

M3 > Mustang

Barely, and it costs 25K more?, if Ford were to ask 25K more for a 'stang don't you think it would be a better handling car with better grade interior materials and such?. For the price the 'stang is really the pure winner here unless $25K is not a lot of cash to you...

anyone who says this obviously has not driven an M3.
go drive one, then get back to me.

again, haz moar sole.

Who needs "sole" when you can have a car with an engine that can suck away the souls of other cars every time you crack the throttle? :awe:

You mean the Shelby GT500? Doesn't really handle any better, same crap interior, no additional options of note compared to the GT. It will put a serious hurting on the M3 in a straight line though.

Edit, I stand corrected, there is an optional $3500 SVT performance package.

When Ford switched the GT500 over to the revised suspension it got worlds better than the pre-2010 GT500 that didn't like to corner. It now actually does handle significantly better.

Going to independent suspension would be fantastic. Their number one buyer isn't looking forward to track days though, that's a smaller segment of their potential customers. Their primary customers are the same people that buy any other car, because they like the name or the look or the cupholders. Then there's the camaro/mustang guy that I know and love and wants just BEAT ON the car every day and have a car that won't break. Live axle wins at that for sure. And then there's the guy that wants fast, which is rare. But still, I think the car could benefit from independent.

I just picked up a 2007 GT. The suspension is a lot lot softer than what I'm used to, it's a bit annoying. But I am in California now, where the roads are worse than in any third world country. I'm glad I have the big boaty car here.

They should offer a package (do they?) that gives you real tires and much tighter suspension on these Mustangs. Would you believe that this Mustang GT with its 300 horsepower has 235 tires all around?

I want to get a supercharger so it has decent power for how massively boaty it is, and I want tires on it that are made for a car with this much power. Like it comes out of the gate not ready to perform. Oh well, top speed in this state is 30mph due to the dumbest drivers imaginable.

First, I don't know that you have much room to complain about roads. Try driving in Detroit and states that have real winters.

It seems I might have been wrong, as the Mustang appears to have at least some of those components. The M3 had a similar "Competition" package though.

Saying "go drive one, then get back to me." is hypocritical, as I'm very doubtful you've driven this Mustang.

"Buy a base Mustang GT and the big-boost supercharger kit, and you’ll have a 624-hp Mustang for $37,994. "

Damn that sounds pretty sweet for a new car with a factory warranty. What are the dealers selling the base GT for though? I've looked around at the Chevy dealer at Camaro SS's while my company truck was getting maintenance, things have like 38k+ prices minimum when the msrp is supposedly 31k.

not relevant. The comparison is to the 2011 gt, not the previous generation gt500.

Make up your mind and quit trying to cherry pick the best and worst features from 3 different cars to make your failed point. You're the one that even brought up GT500 in the first place darrrr. :awe:

Learn to follow the thread. The GT500 was brought up due to its obvious relevance to post I quoted. Do I need to quote it again, or do you think you can find the reading comprehension skills necessary to figure it out on your own?

M3 > Mustang

I was wondering when you would pipe up :p

Just buy what you want...if you want to save £££, save £££, if not get the more pricey car! Only the buyer can decide if $25k is worth the premium.

For me it'll always be 2nd hand cars! 5-8yr old cars FTW! By then they are literally 30-50% off full price :D

Running costs are another issue. I get a whooping 250miles per £68 ~ $100 with my liberal right foot. Thank f0ck I did not commute in my car as it would cost A LOT over the year.
