I have flown all over the state, it was always just "Denali". It is a heck of a lot less wordy, everybody knew what you were talking about.

So have I, was born and raised there. Went there on a few school field trips. Obviously it was not just Denali to everyone. Saying it is, is just being ignorant. Which is why I replied to him. The name doesn't bother me, it is just the ploy of doing it just before he went up there to bolster his rating up there. It is simply a political game, he doesn't give a shit about the actual mountain or the people he supposedly changed it for. Once again bending the rules, or going around them entirely, when it is convenient for him. But whatever, can't do anything about it.

Following the rules is bending the rules? Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays.

Do they, you know that for fact?

We do actually know that for a fact. The State of Alaska officially renamed the mountain and park to Denali in 1975. They tried to get it done on the National level, but they were blocked in Congress by a Congressman representing William McKinley's hometown in Ohio. So, you know, as a State's Rights advocate, it seems that you'd be in favor of changing the name to what the state of Alaska has officially called it for 40 years. Or you could just blame Obama because ignorance and righteous indignation feels better than rational thought.

Yeah, Obama is really gunning for support for those 3 electoral votes from historically Republican Alaska that can't possibly be cast for him because of the 22nd Amendment. What brand of crazy are you on? You sound higher than Denali.

No, "we" don't. I am aware the park changed names, the post I replied to stated that everyone calls the Mountain, Denali already. Which is not true. The state of Alaska has not called the Mountain, Denali for 40 years. The park's name was changed, not the mountain. Have some people? Sure. Not all like was claimed.

Show me one post I have every made saying something bad about him. You can't, because I never have. But good try.

so the real question is: how much will updating all the signs, maps, websites, etc cost?

This seems like the most innocuous thing for people to get riled up about.

If Obama cured cancer, conservatives would probably cry about all the oncologists and chemotherapy drug makers he's putting out of business.

Incorrect. Alaska has been trying for 40 years to have the name restored officially to Denali.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denali–Mount_McKinley_naming_dispute

Alaska first requested in 1975 that the mountain be officially recognized as Denali, as it was still the common name used in the state. Attempts by the Alaskan state government to have Mount McKinley's name changed by the federal government were blocked by members of the congressional delegation from Ohio, the home state of the mountain's presidential namesake.

If you're really from the area and have a good understanding of your area's history, then you should be applauding the name change.

Good, I've never cared for the practice of naming landforms after people. Doubly so for the practice of naming landforms after people who never touched the place. That's too much like naming stars after people.
Well there are all those mountains named after saints....
it's a bit difficult to find the original gaulish names when there are no records.

It is not "Mt Denali". It is simply Denali, and that was its original name.

Why? Denali was the original name.

It's idiotic to the faithful because of Obama of course. That's why. Never mind Alaska has been asking for the rename since 1975 and that Ohio was the only thing that stood in the way.

No wonder so many Americans have heart attacks and strokes. You get so upset over something that doesn't matter and has no practical implications. Sheesh.

Someone should rename our species. We're not humans anymore. Now we're blumpkins. All blumpkin kind rejoice! Honestly, I wouldn't give a fuck. It was one word, now it's another one. Who cares.

It's like pluto. Pluto was a planet, now it's not. I couldn't care less about it. The only drawback is that you could ask me if there are 8 or 9 planets in the solar system and I'd get it wrong half the time out of reflex. Likewise people local to Mt McKinley/Denali will have another 50 or so years of technically getting the name wrong to look forward to.

Im pretty sure if it was a "political game" it was to make all you retards cry over nonsense right before the election.
