MSN through Linksys Firewall

What does it take to allow file transfers between two MSN'ers. Both are on residential broadband Internet connections, have home grade Cable/DSL "firewall" NAT routers from Linksys.

-Ports/settings required on a Linksys (the 4 port Cable/DSL Router)
-Firmware
-Settings on desktop firewall
-Anything else...

Thank you!

This is a little off-topic, but not too badly... some people who are frustrated with getting file transfers to work in MSN have had good luck getting them to work in BitWise Chat, especially with your user-configurable firewalls. Everything is encrypted, compressed, and done with direct connect, and our help pages even tell you what ports you need to get opened up. Maybe not exactly the solution you're looking for but if you must transfer files, it just might do the trick!

Good luck. I tried to get MSN Messenger file transfer and voice to work behind a Seimens 2602 router with not luck...even if I placed the computer in DMZ. I called Siemens and all I got was a Bullsh&t runaround. They said call Microsoft. I did, they said call Siemens.
I went to the Siemens website and configured the router to open said ports for MSN...no go. I'm Cisco certified so it's not like I didn't have a shot at it either.
I just gave up.
Well, I did get a new Siemens router so I will give it a go again. I guess I could hook up a 2507 cisco router and give that a try.

Check help inside messenger - it has the port settings in there somewhere. You actually have to open quite a few ports, one for each simultaneous transfer.

There are some functions that simply won't work behind a linksys (or any other non - UPnP router) like voice chat.
