MSN messenger audio problem

Hi

I just installed WinXP, and my mic. works fine except when I run the audio assistant in msn messenger. For some strange reason it "thinks" there´s sound coming in from the mic. even when the mic is not even plugged in. I have a c-media sound card, and I am sure the mic. is working fine.

I´d appreciate any help.

background noise, turn down the mic in volume.

Tried it, and it didn't work. Even if I unplugg the mic the noise still appears.
