MSN Messenger 6.0

Hi,

Have recently installed MSN Messenger 6.0, but did not uninstall the old Windows Messenger of XP (not even sure that I could have).

Anyway, it kept loading up both, one would sign it and then the other would and the previous one would complain that I had signed it at another location therefore had been signed out.

Well...I thought the simple solution was to just stop the service from starting but when I run messenger, it still comes up with both somehow, although there is no tray icon for the old 4.7 Windows Messenger.

Is there a way to get around this, Ta.

This seems to be a bug in MSN Messenger 6, I haven't seen it happen in version 5. It happened to me a few times, so I loaded up Windows Messenger, checked and unchecked a few of the boxes under tools->options->preferences, and it seems to be behaving now.

I guess the main one to check and uncheck (to make it realize the box is unchecked, I guess) is "load this program when windows starts ".

Actually, this bug does occur with MsnMsgr v5.0.

The later version of WinMsgr that shipped with SP1, and the current build available for download (bld2005) has code that will automatically uncheck the "Run when Windows starts" option if it detects that MsnMsgr is or has been installed.

It would be advisable to go ahead and upgrade WinMsgr anyway, even if you never launch it again, since there is code for some advanced functions that WinMsgr provides (app sharing, videoconferencing, etc) which MsnMsgr relies upon in order to work correctly.
