Of all the lowdown, dirty things to do... maybe they could start a trend, and we can get everyone on the internet do it.. yeah, then everyone has to use their f*cked up, memory-leaking, peice of sh*t browser.

I am using Mozilla, and I get:

<< Attention: Web Browser Upgrade Required to View MSN.com

Additionally, you'll see the most advanced functionality of MSN.com only with the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer or MSN Explorer. I am now convinced that they are threatened by Opera, Mozilla, and other Operating systems in General. Good, because within the next two to three years, M$ is going to get spanked, r*ped, and taken to the cleaners, when people decide that slow, buggy computers really suck

F*ck you Microshaft, we dont want to see your lame site anyways.

Just had to say that.

I dont go there. I just think its pretty messed up for people that do, they are forced to use garbage to get there. I think its sad that the biggest OS/Software company on the block has to resort to tactics like this just to keep the competition from getting like what, 2% of the market share? Please.

Microsoft's Internet Gaming Zone was like that for a long time too. It always seemed kind of sleazy to me.

Get the stink over the Microsoft bashing. If you don't like it use something else.

Sounds to me like Microsoft is doing rather well, and I doubt they will be gone in 2 to 3 years.

I'm going to get flamed to a well-done crisp for this, but... So what? It lets in browsers that render XHTML correctly according to the article, and CNET was able to get in using Netscape 4.7, so big freakin' deal if Opera or Mozilla can't get in. Mozilla, no matter how good, is still Beta and it makes sense to me that MS would not want a non-release version of software potentially causing problems with rendering their pages. It seems to me that MS is merely trying to avoid calls from irate customers with Netscape 2.x or IE 3 saying that it's the site's fault that their ancient browser cannot render it properly. That said, nice to see you again UnixFreak.

I agree with UnixFreak. I run a multitude of OS's and I dont think people should have to put with it.

What's the big deal about bashing or NOT bashing MS? Stop arguing over it! Some people love 'em, some people are indifferent and some people hate them. Who cares? Let people think what they want.

As for disallowing certain browsers: why?

just had to say this. I've used other browsers and other OS's before, but I keep coming back to MS, simply because it is the best. But you people are so bent on being against the most popular thing that you refuse to see it. Also Linux sucks sucks sucks. Thank you.

It's not like Internet explorer costs anything. It's free for god's sake.

Otherwise, I don't care, I don't use msn.

(I run IE6 btw)

I never go to msn.com but I did because of this thread... with Netsape Navigator and I did see the "upgrade your browser page".

I then clicked on the links at the very bottom - Terms of Use | Advertise | TRUSTe Approved Privacy Statement | GetNetWise

Click on Advertise and you'll see that you'll surf msn.com JUST FINE with Netscape. I'm not anti-MS, but WTF are they trying to pull?

I use MSN as my home page.
But I'm more than willing to change if someone can point me to one I like better.
I like the local news function (when it works) and being able to customize the content.
But I did notice they changed to home page a LOT today, and I'm not so sure I like it that much anymore?

EXCEPTING APPLICATIONS: for new home page ideas!!

Use a portal like My Yahoo! and customize it. Tell it what you want to see and you'll get it... nothing can beat that.
