Now come the interesting part (or unethical/illegal as some may term) :

Use another credit card and enroll again for next 3 months.
They only keep track of a user by his credit card #.

MSN is the worst ISP I ever used. I have a prepaid 2 years subscription, and they messed my account on a regular basis.They double charge my CC several time, ever time I have to spend 3-5 hours (long on hold time)tospeak with them on the phone and then fax my receipt to get it straight out, and they keep making the same stupid mistake again and again tomakeyou think that they are really doing it intentionally. It always takes them 2-3 months to credit backon myCC.

I will say byebye to them till the subscription ends this October. I think if you don't like to deal with stupid people, you should stay away from MSN.

I use MSN and have had no problems. Whenever I want to cancel (right before I get charged) they just tack on another free month. Only takes about 5 min from when I dial to when I talk to someone. Best service I've ever seen. Even CompUSA puts me on hold for 20 min before I can talk to someone (including their stupid phone touch system...press 1 for such and such...).

What I found was a dial-up isp with about the same quality as AOL. I almost never get connected with the first try. Usually it takes two to three tries before I am connected. I also get disconnected at about the same rate as AOL........which is once or twice a day.

But, hey! its free for three months........whats the matter with that?

I probably will wind up with AT&T. If you sign up for their long distance at 7 cents a minute, you get unlimited internet access for just $7 a month. There is, however, a small ad window that they put up. If you go to their website they show you a picture of it. It would not bother me in the least. The ads on Anandtech and others are much bigger.

I havent called AT&T about this offer so I am not positive..........but, I could find no reference to any "monthly $$$$" charges for their long distance .............I DONT BELIEVE IT.......RIGHT AT THIS POINT, I WAS DISCONNECTED FROM MSN - AMAZING!!!.........

If anyone is using this AT&T 7/7 plan and really knows the details of it, howz about a post about what you think? I am sure it would be helpful for not only me, but a lot of others. Thanks!

Better to sign up at Best Buy for the $200 deal. You get instant $200 off a purchase, you sign for 2 years, but just go home and cancel. The restrictions say if you cancel early you are penalized, they charge back 70% of the rebate, so you get $60.00 off the purchase of $200.00 or more, combine with a preferred customer 10% discount when they have them.

I heartily second Wei2Cool's summary-- MSN has done the same with me. I got my special one-year $100 suscription at AccessMicro, $60 after the $40 rebate. My account is regularly billed bogus charges--the last I looked, the total in false charges was around $200. I don't even bother to call MSN anymore, since it has happened so often, but simply call Visa and have them send out a disputed claims form.
In addition, early on they were offline for days at a time, about every month or so, so I was very happy to have Juno's free service as a backup. For the last couple of months, however, I haven't had any problems.

You guys do realize that MSN, AOL, and most other national providers use the same backbone provider. It's usually MegaPOP, Broadwing, Sprint, Telia, UUNet, Infonet, or Corecom (there might be a couple of others). What MSN (and other providers) do it buy an account from these provders for $7.95-$11.95 a month, then provide their own radius authentication.

For instance, the ISP I work for uses all the same numbers on most of the west coast as MSN, but we charge $15.95/month and MSN charges $21.95/month (even though it's the same connection). Each account on that backbone costs $9.95, so MSN is making around $12 a person per month.

Just wanted to educate you guys a little bit on how selling the internet works

Consumer Reports just published a report on 7 ISP'S. MSN was 7th.

I tried MSN when only the first 30 days was free. I went elsewhere after 10 days of not connecting, slow connections, etc.
