MSN chat won't work for me

Dammit. :|

My friend wanted me to join his room. I go to MSN chat, download the applet, and it says...

There were problems downloading the MSN Chat software. Use the help window on your right to resolve the problem then click "Try Again".

I tried everything I can think of, even went as far as to read their "Help Window". Tried everything on the list... nothing. Windows reinstall, nope. Reboot, nope. Nothing works!

Win98SE, 56k, IE 5, etc...

Anyone have any ideas?

do you have activex and javascript enabled? are you using any firewall or something that clocks activex/cookies?
