I tried to help someone yesterday get setup with their new MSN Broadband DSL service. They're going to use a Netgear RP614 Internet Gateway Router to give about 5 computers Internet access through an Arescom 800NDS DSL modem.
I setup the Netgear IGR like Microsoft says to do in the Knowledge Base Article "Networking An MSN DSL Internet Connection To Multiple Computers." The computers all obtain a 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254 IP address from the IGR, and the IGR obtains a private IP address on the WAN slide from the Arescom modem, 192.168.1.2 I believe. The IGR has an IP address of 192.168.0.1 on the LAN side.
The Internet doesn't work. I can't go to any web sites from any computer. I noticed that the Arescom 800NS DSL modem's WAN LINK light always blinks on and off. Shouldn't it stay on solid once the DSL modem synchs to the DSL system? Can anybody with that DSL modem tell me for sure how the WAN LINK light should act?
I was also wondering how MSN DSL works? How do the computers get Internet access if the IGR gets a private IP address on the WAN side? What does the DNS for the computers? Thanks for any info you can give me.
