Hello. I recently purchased a new MSI KT7 Turbo 2 Motherboard off Newegg for a terrific price ($33) because it uses the KT133A chipset and I had SDRAM waiting to be used. I put in an AGOIA stepping Athlon XP 1600. I'm new to the whole voltage regulation business and never tried overclocking, so I could use some advice.
I noticed that under normal use the CPU temp sits at 115°F. Running Madonion's PCMark2002 I get a CPU score of 4052. I get the following voltage indications: Vcore=1.76 3.3v=3.33 +5v=5.15 +12v=11.82
Using MSI's "Cooler XP" program that I downloaded from MSI's website, I get the system to idle at an amazing 83°F (23°C). It adjusts my voltages to the following: Vcore=1.80 3.3v=3.33 +5v=5.13 +12v=11.94
The decrease in temperature is phenomenal, but is it good for the system? Using PCMark2002 my CPU score drops slightly to 4020. Should I use this program, or is there a better way? Should I set the values within the bios at the "Cooler XP" values? Will it have the same cooling effect.
Any comments on the program, recommendations and hints are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
