I currently run the ASROCK810mlr mobo with the DURON 1.4 CPU. What kind of performance gains can I expect by switching to the MSIkt7turbo2 mobo? I know the MSI will take an extra 512 MB of memory, but beyond that, what are the benefits? Should i only just upgrade the DURON cpu to the ATHLON XP+, and stick with the ASROCK? Thanks! ...OBTW, if anyone has an athlonxp or an MSI motherboard they arent using ,i would be interested.

In a attempt to keep things simple, if you plan to upgrade any part of that system it would probably be best to look at moving to a newer platform altogether.

For a more detailed explanation, if this is the board you currently have Asrock M810MLR then upgrading it will also require you to replace that SDR memory with new DDR memory (because of the small cache on the Duron this would help performance). Upgrading the processor instead of the motherboard would also increase performance, but your system would still be limited by the SDR memory in your current board. Also since the M810MLR doesn?t have an AGP slot (or the newer PCI-E tech) you are limited again to either integrated video or using PCI graphics. Depending on what kind of performance gain you want to see this could be the biggest drawback of your current board.

If you are on a very limited budget I would look at the socket 754 Sempron. If you can afford more defiantly look at the Socket 939 Athlon 64 or a P4 setup.

You should seriously consider switching to a newer motherboard. An NF2 board would definitely be an improvement.

I have an Amptron M810LMR and it isn't a bad board but they have little in the way of upgrading potential.

I used to have an MSI K7Turbo (first model). It was a great board until I killed it.:(

The Second edition Turbo offered better cpu support, up to XP2600+ 133 bus version.

Any newer Socket A board requires DDR ram.
