MSIE 8 does not load pages

At least half the time. With a live internet connection, MSIE 8 just kinda hangs on a blank white page instead of loading the web page. When it does this, no amount of waiting will load the page. Kill the browser, reopen and the website is there. Or, use Firefox and I can prove to myself the web connection is live.

It does this more often on links sent via email. I get property listings via the MLS that come in email ... and sometimes I click on several and they won't resolve in the Internet Exploder. Other times tey come right up with no issue.

They will always open in Firefox. I am tempted to change FF to my default browser so it will open email hyperlinks like I had it set up in XP Pro. But a lot of pages need MSIE to look correct so I changed my default to MSIE when I started using Windows 7.

I can't find anything on Microsoft's website about this issue. Any help here?

Try browsing to the links in IE with add ons disabled.

Type iexplore –extoff in the run box.

Thanks for that. Running it in this fashion does indeed work...so I guess I need to figure out which add on causes the problem. This tip does not address opening links in emails though, but maybe if I already have the Internet Exploder running properly first the links in Outlook will work.

I'll try that and BTW thanks again for the tip

As much as I love Firefox, it simply does not do things correctly in some cases and MSIE works better. I do indeed, use FF most of the time.

No more info on this, huh? COmmon issue?

You gave yourself the answer:

I need to figure out which add on causes the problem.

Get it to hang again. Then go into IE's "manage add-ons" control panel and look at the list of "currently loaded add-ons". My bet is that one of them is going to stand out by name as the offender. If not, then start disabling them one at a time or in small batches and then refreshing the stuck page to see when it works.

And/Or post a list of all your add-ons so we can recommend which ones to disable.
