MSI + Zalman 7000-Cu problems

I recently bought a MSI K8N Neo Platinum with a A64 3000 and the Zalman 7000-Cu cooler. From the instructions that came with the cooler I was supposed to put on a back plate to the board. But my mobo already came with a back plate and retention box (for another HSF) already on it (no HSF came with it).

The back plate that came with the mobo wouldn't allow me to put the cpu cool on correctly with the Zalman mounting screws. There ended up being some space between the cooler and the chip. So I'm currently using the retention box that came with the mobo. This box doesn't allow me to see if the cpu cooler is touching the cpu, so I'm not sure if its on correctly. I can take pictures if need be. I really don't have the money to mess this up so any help would be appreciated!
