MSI x800 $165 after MIR

Newegg has this: MSI x800 for 165 after a $30 Mail-in Rebate. I will also be purchasing (once I decide on a graphics card) an Venice 3000+ AMD64 in a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D.

Is this a good deal? (x800 vanilla @ 6600GT price?) Also, does anyone know anything about this card? Noise? My current FX5900 sounds like an airplane (when playing games) so most anything is probably an improvement.

I primarily play World of Warcraft (which most anything should support just fine), some Half-life 2, a little FarCry and a little Guild Wars.

Other thing is should I wait to see what graphics card prices do over the next couple weeks or so with the release of the 7800GTX. Should I see what Nvidia comes out for the mainstream market? Or is this too far off (my WoW performance is abysmal (10fps) with more than about 10 or so things around me (CPU bound so the people don't even have to be on the screen).

I bought my brother a couple months ago Leadtek 6600, Winchester 3000+ AMD64 in a DFI Lanparty Ultra-D. He maintains over 20 fps at almost all times. Most everything I've seen is my FX5900 should perform roughly onpar with that 6600 so I'm definatly CPU bound.

The other option is to get an AGP motherboard and upgrade my video card later. I think I'd rather have PCI-e now and possibly be able to upgrade to a mainstream r520/G70 with a dual core if they ever go mainstream.

On the horizon I plan to buy Neverwinter Nights 2 which will use SM3.0 at Q4 2006. This might lean me towards a 6600GT but I figured that its SM3.0 performance would be pretty abysmal and such pointless.

Well HOPEFULLY someone will actually read all this unorganized information and give me an informed opinion. One can always hope.

Thanks in advance.

This card is just as fast or faster than the 6800NU.

$165 is a steal for it.

It has 12 pipelines opposed to the 6600gts 8.

It also has 256 bit memory instead of 128.

The clocks are faster than the Nu's. 325/392 600/700.

I guess the big question is should I jump on this now or wait a little longer to see what happens to prices? (and if anyone can answer all my other questions that'd be very helpful too). Deal ends June 10.

Prices will alway's go down. Wait if you can. I think they are offering these rebates because they will soon reflect be the actual MSR.

The x800 will stomp the 6600gt in pretty much everything, and at that price it's a steal. I'd get one right now, but I'm still stuck on AGP, so no deal for me. Anyway, whether you get it or not, I'd recommend going PCIE if you're building a new system, because AGP is being slowly phased out. The fact that the gf7800 is only for pcie right now should tell you the way things are going.

So it looks like the consensus is to go for it.

No one has any specific knowledge about this card?

great price. how long can you wait anyway?

I've been waiting since early March, I'm not sure I really want to wait much longer :) This seems like a good deal. One last look for input!

well, a 6600gt and x800 are closer in performance than you might think. It really depends on if Sm3 is important to you or not.

but that is a good deal.

Are there even games that support SM3 now? As I said in the origional post I'm planning to get Neverwinter Nights 2 which is being designed around SM3 (but backwards compatable with SM2 for those that don't support it).
