Let's settle a little quarrel here. If you had a choice of a motherboard chipset design that you liked (be it nForce, KTxxx, SiS, etc.) and MSI or ECS made it, which would choose (all other things being equal)?

Also when you think of who makes a better board, would it be ECS or MSI?

Between those two, MSI. ECS boards work wonderfully, if they don't arrive DOA that is, but not a small amount of them seem to unfortunately :(

That being said, the ECS K7VZA was a damn fine KT133A motherboard, probably the best KT133A chipset mobo that no one ever heard of.

<< MSI ownz j00 >>

Agreed.
Although I've only had one of their boards, and it died.

Does this question really need to be asked? :(

I wondered the same thing, but the thread quoted above was my reasoning for posting.

My recent 12 months experience of MSI with various of their mobo's has been worse than ECS so i will go for the cheaper option - ECS :)
YMMV though ;)

MSI for me. Sorry I can't get over the ECS MB's (PCCHIPS etc.). I've never had one but some of my friends have and they are good for what they are ment for (low cost oem mb).

Cheers,

I've used both.

And I am an MSI man. They are damn stable. I dont O/C, so that isnt an issue.

I use ECS when people want cheap. I use MSI when people want reliable.

But overall, MSI is my motherboard of choice for all of my personal systems.

All things being EQUAL, that's the operative word,If MSI & ECS were the same price & had the same features, then it's no competition,MSI.

BUT people buy ECS because it's cheap & good performer.

Well I have never owned or built an MSI board so I can only comment on my good experiences with the ecs sis735 board...

I remember the days of the problems with a lot of the kt133a baords (pro-2a's I believe).

I don't really fall into that brand name sh^t...I read the reviews like I did with the ecs board and I buy...MSI doesn't impress me as do a bunch of the bloated asus or abit boards...remember abit about 8-10 months ago???

I give any company the benefit of the doubt and look at there products now and not necessarily then...

By the way we get your point NFS4..YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE ECS!!!!Have you made it a quest to bad mouth ECS???

It's just so nice to see some people here judging a brand by only what he hears from others and reviews, but with no actual experience, these people's votes surely contain a lot of substance.

MSI by a long way. I have both owned and used and built systems with both. The main reason is due to ECS or PC-Chips for that matter having a much worse RMA return than the others. I have seen many that were either DOA or had other problems. I have personally owned many MSI boards and never have had a bad or defective one plus they overall are some of the best performing too. SOME of the newer ECS perform quite well and are a lot of performance for a low price but for myself or building a system for say a close friend, I would always use MSI to be sure not to get a defective board. I raved about the Sis 735 so a friend bought one for a business he was building a system for and it gave him all sorts of problems and got him in a LOT of trouble with the boss of the company he was working for.

I agree with LXI. Some people just base their comments on what they read and not experience. I have used both over the years and never liked ECS till recently due to a lot of bad boards and overall substandard performance. ECS has gotten a lot better of late in the performance department but from all I have both seen myself and read still have a long way to go to match MSI or some other companies like ASUS in quality and low RMA.
