Well, for some reason, the drivers won't install. I recently reformmated the drive, installed the new mobo and cpu, installed Win98(for now) and everything went fine. When ever I try to install the drivers for the sound card, it just won't go. I think it has something to do with the onboard sound this thing has. I went into the BIOS, and there are some soundblaster settings in there but I am confused and don't know what they do.

Make sure any settings for onboard sound are disabled in the bios and check your manual and the MB for any jumpers also.

On my MSI K7T Pro board,I`ve the onboard sound disabled, which in my Bios is listed has "onchip sound" under advanced chipset features, mine has settings Auto or disable,so your board should be the same select "disable".Your SBLive should work fine if there`s no IRQ conflict,my SBlive does.

The card is in the first PCI slot. I don't think it has any IRQ conflicts. Another thing, what is "onboard modem"?

Try putting it at the 3. or 4. pci slot! and be sure to disable the onboard legacy sound and soundblaster and mpu401? and game port as well in the bios (under Integrated perhipals). And I've heard that there are some other users having problems with the kt133a chipset and the sb live! card... but try this first! hope it will help!

My manual says "this item allows you to control the onboard MC 97 MODEM" which I believe you would only use if you have CNR card, mine is set at disabled since I`m using my own Diamond 56K PCI modem, even on Auto I had no problems.

I changed it down from the first to the 5th PCI slot and it's working great now.:D

Good job Mark. It's likely your SBLive was trying to share an IRQ w/ the AGP slot, as that's how most boards are set up. Moving the SBLive got it it's own IRQ, or at least one it doesn't have to share w/ your video card.
