I'm looking at either the MSI 8850 or the 8851.
It looks as though the 8850 has the VIVO functions, and the 8851 has the DVI out as well as the TV-out. I'm kind of leaning towards the 8850, but I'm wondering if the VIVO functions work at all with nVidia reference drivers(I've never owned a VIVO card), or would I need to use the MSI drivers?
Also, do both cards have hardware monitoring capabilities?
Their price looks really good, I might just wait another week or two till they go down even more, and hopefully by then I'll have decided.

I have the one with DVI and works great, the TV out also works with reference drivers, but not quite so well, the work better with MSI's. Mine doesn't have hardware monitoring, I think the VIVO doesn't either. Only the TI500 have monitoring... too bad!. Probably the vivo feature will work better with MSI's also, you could look for a review around the web.

I have this card too and I need to know what kind of memory it has. I think is 4 ns memory, with has it's theorical (and specification) limit set at 250MHz DDR (500MHz) ->

1 / 4ns * 0.001 = 250MHz

Tom says it's 4 ns but the GeForce 3 Ti200 is set at 5 ns by default, i'snt it? I wonder, does anybody knows the awnser for this issue or knows a site that have general detailed information about video products?

Thanks!

my visiontek geforce3 ti200 has 4 ns ram. it's pretty common for boards to have faster ram that the minimum that is specified by nvidia.

Yeah chances are that its 4ns. The GF3 original's ram was 4 ns (for 500 MHz operation) but yeilds weren't so great so they had to clock the RAM to 460 MHz for stability.

I have the MSI G3Ti200 (8850). You should be aware that the TV-out cipset on that is Philips SA7108 which is not supported in nVidia reference drivers. You can get around that though with tvtool but the 6.0 that adds support for 7108 is still in beta. I guess that at some point it will be supported in nvidia drivers but currently I am stuck to 21.83 MSI drivers. Haven't really tried the video-in but it seems that drivers for that are the same wdm drivers as available on nvidia's site.

8850 has hw monitoring via the included 3DTurbo software.

AT and jiffylube, do you guys have problems with overscan(black frame around picture when outputted to tv) with the MSI drivers? I'm wondering if it's just nVidia's reference drivers that make it do that(I run reference drivers on a Gainward), or if no one other than the makers of TvTool(which I've tried, loved, and can't afford) have figured out how to output full screen yet.

Good feedback guys, thanks!

jiffylube - thanks for the heads up. I'll give those a shot.

RedRooster - I have a small black border but not big enough to really bother me, I can live with it. Dont know if it makes any difference but I have a PAL TV.
