Help..I placed a Piii700e in msi 6905 master slotket with a golden orb in my msi 6163 pro mobo...if I bump the computer I think the cpu loosens in the slot 1 and I can not get it boot...the video screen will not come up and bios will not initialize. This occurred whether the cpu was at 100 or 133 fsb.

Is there a way to secure the slotket better in the slot 1 brackets.

Right now I have the system running at 700@933 at 1.65 and I have turned on and off ...and reset ok right now.

If it is not the cpu could it be the memory placed in slot3( I had a piii450@630 with alpha and lost dimm slot 1&2...I just left the memory in place.

Also if I try to o/c to say 140 fsb (my system has been running this fast for months) and the chip will not run at this speed if it does not load ...how can I get into the bios to decrease fsb???

Thanks
Neal

Hey compuwiz1
Ya think I could get some mail too? I need a couple or 3 of whatever those brackets are. I'm afraid to stand my case upright with a couple of pounds (OK maybe 1) hanging off that slot 1. Uh -- think they will fit Abit motherboads?

I would try two things:

First, make sure that the ZIF socket that holds the processor is fully latched and that the processor is fully inserted.

Second, observe the slocket while you wiggle and bump the case (gently). Make sure there is no play and make sure the guides on your MB are firmly attached. If things are not tight, you may be able to use some ty wraps (thin ones) to make a chain or harness that goes across the top of the slocket and attaches to the guides.

There is always the possibility that there is a problem with your processor or the slocket. Unlikely it is the processor though. One bad solder joint on the slocket could put you out of business though.

It could be making contact 99% of the time and then a bump opens the connection and down you go. Check the ZIF socket and the guides first though as interconnects are where most of the troubles occur. Don't forget to check your Orb mounting as well. It is not a light weight device.

Now: I need some help in return!!!!

I also have the MSI slocket with a PIII 700 and an ASUS P3V4X which I want to overclock as you have done (yes, I have PC133 memory and an Orb).

What are the jumper settings you used on your slocket. From what I can read on the box (someone put a sticker over part of the instructions), the default auto settings should be fine. Yes? No?

The default setting on the jumpers should work fine...although I had trouble at first and I am not sure why with the default jumpers...I changed J1 and J4 ...no jumper on J1 and moved J4 so that it covers 2 and 3....now the system will post and run...at default jumpers I could not get it to post even at 700 with no o/cing. Compuwiz1 said default should run fine and since he sells and use a ton of these slotkets I would go with his advice and NOT change the jumpers.

I have placed the golden orb on the cpu...the cpu went in very smoothly into slotket and lever closed with no problem I will try your suggestions and see how things go.

Thanks

Neal

Hey compuwiz1, -- "I ain't the bracket fairy! ;)"
Ok, I put my MS6905 under my pillow for the Night and guess what? The next morming I found a crimper, some wire, electrical connectors, a spring, and some plastic cable clamps all neatly packaged under my pillow !!! ;)
Thanks for the tip.
