MSI SiS 648 memory timings

Hi, new to the forum, but in need of some help regarding memory timings.

I built a system for a friend at Christmas with an MSI Sis 648 motherboard and after reading the review on anandtech, decided to buy some DDR400 ram for it, which although unofficially supported, I thought it was a good Idea, since it was proven to work (if the settings were correct). How wrong I was.

Problem: the pc ran fine until any kind of 3d application (games) were run, it work fine for 1/2 hour and then freeze every time. Firstly I thought it was the Gainward geforce4 ti4200 card and had it replaced, but the problem remained. I swapped that card out for an old Matrox g400 max card I had and the problem was still there. the only other issue I had was the use of a DDR400 stick (samsung).
Now I must confess, I am not a memory or FSB expert, so here is the question, can I configure the bios so I can get this stick of memory to work? I had thought of adjusting the memory frequency ratios to make the ram behave like DDR333 (but I an not sure how to do this) or should I just bite the bullet and get some DDR33?

following the advice from the review, here are the bios setting relevant to the memory...

cpu:memory set to safe,
CAS:Latency set to 2.5
commandrate set to 2T.

I have the samsung DDR400 ram in bank one on the MSI SiS 648 board, along with the gainward geforce 4 ti4200 and Pentuim 4 2.4 ghz, running Windows XP

any advice would be much appreciated.

regards
