I just ordered one this week, specs look impressive for a board under $100.($91 actual). Will plug a 3200(939) into it and use the onboard video until I have time to do some gaming on it, then I'll get a PCI-E video card to take advantage of the 3 screen capability. I'll post results when I get a chance.

Got my RS480 and all the rest of the toys on Monday and Tuesday, finished tweeking the HW Wed. This is one -Sweet- little MOBO with the CM450 PSU running at 15% capacity.
With only the GPU oced at 250, Sandra MultiMedia is rating the following,
Int X4 18995 ITS
Float X4 20430 ITS
PR2985

The KVR3200 CL3 is auto set to CL2.5 and stable. (nothing to brag here, but interesting to say the least.

I bought my MSI RS480M2-IL almost a month ago. It's odd that you say it seems expensive compared to a $120 NF4 Ultra. My MSI RS480M2-IL has scored better (albiet slightly) than several NF4 Ultra boards with the same CPU and Video. For $93 shipped, I'd call that a bargain.

Same as crazyeddie, got mine about a month back and it trumpts my nForce 4 in *synthetic* memory tests, don't know the difference in real time performance though.

Welcome to last month. BTW, some actually buy a IGP board to use the IGP ;) $89 shipped for a board with this good of IGP and Amd64 support is a sweet deal.

Mwave.com has it for $85 and I've bought practically all my new motherboards from them. They are usually better priced then Newegg, but they have poor video card prices.

I buy a lot of hardware from MWave, good prices and great customer service. Shipping is slightly higher than Newegg or ZipZoomFly.

They didn't have the MSI RS480M2-IL when I went to order one. Also, some of their pricing may not be completely up to date. They just went through a major overhaul to their website. Repricing some of the more volatile products (video cards, e.g.) is probably on their agenda.

I've been happy with Newegg so far, but I've never had to return anything to them.

Sandra Multimedia:
MSI RS480 A64(939) 3200+
Int 19968
Fpt 27504
PR3457

It's a great board with full control of the two fans, 4 SATAs, 2 PATAs, 16x PCI-E and possible 3 monitor video, but NO OCing, but I don't need to OC all my rigs.

Just got this MB, fired it up last night, and I'm searching the net for info about ide disk problems...

It doesn't see my ide HD. I've tried two WD 160GB drives and neither worked. I tried an older 20GB drive and it did work. Then I tried a different WD 20GB drive and it didn't work. Then I tried the two 20GB drives together and both worked. All during this, my two 60GB sata drives are detected just fine, but my DVD/CD on the second ide is not auto detected but it is detected if I have the bios explicitly test for it.

I'm new to homebuilding but not to systems; this all seems very odd. Yes, I'm careful about the master/slave jumper on the ide drives. I'll do more testing tonight.

How big does the powersupply need to be? I have 380W. The mb manual says 350 or more is recommended. I disconnected the sata drives, and I'm using onboard video, and that didn't help. My cpu is the 3800.

Did you try removing the jumpers from your WD160? I believe if you're running a single WD HD on an IDE controller you have to remove all the jumpers in order for it to be detected correctly. The only time you need jumpers is if you are running two IDE devices on a channel.

Yup, I realized that was the problem. Removing the master jumper on a single disk WD setup is required. It wasn't on the other disks I had which is why I missed it. Thanks for your help!

Seems like a nice mobo for a non or light gaming system. If you think about it, you're getting a slightly below x300 level video card "included" on a mobo that cost less than $100.

That is how I see good IGP boards too. They are the basis of great budget systems IMO. The original nForce GF2MX in dual channel wasn't a bad IGP for its day, nF2 with DC and a few tweaks was as good as the cards most people were paying gouged prices for at retail stores back then, and now ATI is releasing very nice IGP boards and has a better one coming soon. I hear nV has one coming out but no one seems certain what series of GPU the IGP will be based off of, though the 6200 seems the most likely.

Also a little aggrevated that there are no 64-bit chipset drivers available. Just ordered an 800XL, and in the near future this board will be replaced by NForce4-Ultra or possibly an as yet unreleased ATI based board that will hopefully support overclocking and SATA-II.

It is a GREAT board if you want to just put it together and don't want to play/tweak any settings.

I'm planning on getting this board for a friend's machine I'll be building in a few weeks. It seems like the perfect board for him because he tends to keep a machine for several years but he wouldn't have a problem upgrading the video card in about a year.

It's starting to worry me a little, though, because I'm still not seeing any boards besides the MSI one with this chipset. If this board never catches on I can't imagine ATI maintaining good support for it. You have to get hacked drivers just to update a current Mobility Radeon, I'd hate to try and get drivers for an abandoned chipset.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. ATI is supposedly coming out with their next chipset called the RX482/RS482. It will be based on the 480 series but adds more features, the biggest of which is AMR (ATI's answer to SLI).

So it looks like ATI intends to take on Nvidia in the enthusiast motherboard chipset category as well.

The clockspeed of the IGP is set in the system BIOS. My board came with the clock set to 200Mhz, same as RAM. You can adjust it 25Mhz at a time up to 350Mhz. I had mine set to 350Mhz when I ran 3DMark05 and UT2K3 benchmarks.

Hey guys, for those of you with this board, can you use both video outputs (rca and s-video) at the same time?
