MSI RADEON X1950PRO & Antec True Blue 2.0 480 Watt

Okay, so I'm collecting parts for my new build 🙂

Currently I have:

1 - MSI RADEON X1950PRO
1 - Seagate 400 GB Sata HDD
2 - Super Talent 1GB ram (2 GB total)

Not sure if going C2D or X2

I'm wondering if a 480 Watt Antec True Blue 2.0 will be sufficient for the videocard, and everything else. Link to PSU

According to the box:

+5 V +12V1 +12V2 +3.3v -12v +5Vsb
Max 38 A 18A 18A 30A 1.0A 3.0A
Min 5.5A .4A .4A .5A 0A 0A

- Jimmy 🙂

I have that PS. But, it's a couple of years old. It couldn't handle my x1950 pro. It would lock up all the time. It could be because of the age though. It seemed to work ok when I installed it in a computer with a Truepower 380. I went and bought a Truepower Trio 650 to replace the 480. No lights on the fans though. 🙁

Damn...I hope your PSU didn't work because of its age or else I'll have to sell, and buy a more expensive PSU. 🙁

Yes it should handle it without a problem.

QFT - should be no problem with plenty of headroom to spare. i run a antec tp 480 in rig in sig and o/c the cpu between 2.3 and 2.5GHz and also the gpu and never an issue, plus i added another optical drive and hdd to the equation but haven't updated the sig....

I ran the rig in my sig non-OC'd with a few less case fans and 1 less Raptor with a GTS for a few days with the original Antec TrueBlue 480W. Pretty sure GTS and 1950pro power reqs. are similar, so you should be ok.

My TB480 handled a 1900XT, which I think is more power hungry. But it did get hot, and eventually wore on it to the point it wouldn't boot my DFI RS482 board. Swapping the board out with an ECS KN-1 was fine, so I think the voltage quality may have gone out of whack after running it that hard (LOTS of HDDs and USB devices).

I've requested an RMA, since it was able to work fine at first (also since the Corsair 520W that replaced it is going strong). Once I get it back, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back to powering that 1900XT (need to spring for a 8800GTX).
