MSI Radeon 290x Twin Frozr - overlocking setups/advice

Just curious what stable setup's people have had success with. Just got a 4k TV and replaced my 7970. 4k gaming is eye candy jaw dropping and I can't stop playing it.

Is this a good setup? Can I push it more? Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

Using MSI Afterburner.

Current setting / Max Afterburner potential settings
Core Voltage +31 / 100
Power Limit +42 / 50
Core Clock 1100MHz / 1340MHz
Memory Clock 1400MHz / 1625MHz
Manual Fan profile setup, not hitting over 82 degrees C while stressed

Did you get those max clocks on it? 1340 core?

no sorry bro, I didn't explain myself well. What I meant is that is the max setting possible in Afterburner. If I go too much above my current clocks, I get BSODs/lockups. That's why I'm wondering if there's another good setup/balance that I may be missing. She's running good though, very impressed in 4k. I can't wait for everyone to play in 4k. If people only knew what they were missing out on. It's jawdropping.

What does the forward slash ( / ) mean in your original post? Are you saying the values before the slash are for normal everyday use, and the numbers after are for overclocked/gaming?

Edit: oops I was hasty, I see you've answered this.

I think they may be using similar quality components in the 290 (Pro) cards as well. Both of my 290 Twin Frozr are consecutive serial numbers. Both don't go much above 1120/1380 before artifacting. Memory is Hynix but unlike my Sapphire Tri-X cards which can both hit 1600+, I hit a wall around 1400 with the MSIs. My guess is lower binning with the MSIs, or the cheaper PCB components are limiting the OC.

I'm only losing like 1-2 FPS versus my faster Sapphire so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it though. Once I get a better PSU it will be tri-fire time 🙂

You playing at 4k? I was thinking about getting another card but I'm honestly happy with this right now. I used to game at 120hz and loved it. It's funny how I can go back to 30hz (which is most console games anyways) and not have a problem with it. 4k gaming is well worth it (on 39inch Seiki that I calibrated). It plays fine and the framerate isn't that bad. My 7970 actually handled 4k but I'd say that's the minimum to use. This card makes it feel normal and 2014 is the year of 4k gaming. Bet on it...
