picked this up http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127773

says the Max Resolution is
2560 x 1600

I plan on using this for 4k gaming (amazing and destroys eyefinity), no crossfire. Right now I've been 4k gaming on a Radeon 7970 and surprisingly it's holding up but hoping this is a upgrade. The 7970 shows it can handle the 4k res in the specs but the 290 doesn't?

Am I missing something here? It will do 4k gaming on a 4k monitor/tv correct?

It can handle 4k. AMD even thinks they can enable non-MST 4k on it in the future. That's 4k in a single stream. Pretty neat. They're just waiting on the monitors. We'll see.

Could it be that it can only handle 2560x1600 on a single connector?

What do you mean by that? Right now I'm running a MSI Radeon 7970 3GB HDMI @ 4k like a gem.

I really would find it hard to believe that this card couldn't do the same. It's just odd how they list the Max Res.

It will support it, but at that resolution I think crossfire would be a good idea for demanding games.

Can I crossfire it with my old 7970?

No, the 290 and 290x are not capatible with older cars in crossfire. They lack the connector, plus you would be gimped to the 7970Ghz level. Also, the newer CF on the 290X is the only one capable of passing a 4k image to the main card, the older bridge technology topped out at 1600p at around 60fps.

Thanks Kent. I'm honestly ok with how my 7970 is running right now. How amazing the experience is, is worth the little bit of lag. Assuming my 290x will be a little better though.
