Welcome to the AT forums!

1- No, I'd bet good money that the card and motherboard are fully compatible.
2- 7950 is roughly around 660ti and 670. Depending on games and overclocks. And prices, of course.
3- You can contact whomever you like, but given the questions that they're likely to ask you when you do, you should be sure what the problem is before calling. Otherwise tech support can be a exercise in pointless running around.

Anyway, do you have some other discrete PCI-E graphics card around? If this is a totally new build, except monitor, why are you immediately pinning the blame on the VGA? Your post mentions a few components, but doesn't explicitly say what CPU and RAM you're using. Can we safely assume that you do have those too?

While the power supply is plenty -- you did remember to plug in the PCI-E power connectors to the 7950, correct?

It would be great if you had another card (or even plugging into the on-board graphics will do fine) just to establish that the system works fine without the card.

Make sure PCI-e connectors are in and the PSU switch is on.

I thought a new card killed my system years ago, because before I installed it I switched off the computer from the PSU and forgot about it :oops:

plimogz..yes, we had an older radeon card and plugged it in, ran fine, minus the lousy graphic display.
PCU= 3570k
RAM= 8GB corsair vengeance
os= win7
as for the plugs on the new card, there are two sets of 6 pins and a 2set of 2 hanging not being used.

Kaihonsou..this gives me hope :| where would a PSU switch be? are you saying the R7950 has an on/off switch?
i know its not "doa" unless this MSI card was really lousy, we xchanged it for a brand new one thinking it was. so im on #2. hoping to not have to trade it in for another but will if i have to.

bigsnyder...lord!!, no speakers :$ so im not sure, but everything ran fine w the OLD card we slipped in there.

So, everything actually works with the 7950 in the machine?, (i.e. the system posts, boots into Windows, and if you manually plug the screen into the motherboard display-out you can see the desktop or login screen)

But the display doesn't work when the screen is plugged into the 7950?

Do I have that right?

If so, just disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS, or at least set the discrete VGA priority higher that the integrated GFX.

here's the ga-z77x-ud3h manual in PDF.

(Oh, and let me just take the time to wag my finger at you reproachfully for misspelling your motherboard in the OP. ffs)

Anyway. The short version is: Hit Del at POST time. Go to Peripherals. Then Set Init Display First to PEG. Oh, and then hit F10 to save and exit.

That could well do it.

Otherwise, it may have something to do with Lucid Virtu. But I've never used that tech, so I wouldn't know.

i did hit save and exit..any clue about that?

(yes im female lol)
when i hit DELETE and to to my BIOS
i found "INTERNAL GRAPHICS" and when i go to the "DISABLE" it removes the 3 below it as well..called:
Internal Graphics Memory Size
DVMT Total Memory Size
Intel Rapid Start Technology

so without direction, it scares me to shut this down?
is this the right settings expected??

It's fine, don't worry about it. Just try Disabling the internal graphics and see if it then works with the screen plugged into the 7950.

Does your board have the LED readout in the bottom right corner? If so, that will help you troubleshoot (probably not a system beeps, that is old school my mistake).

You are sure you plugged into the video card itself? Are you also sure that your monitor is set to the correct input source?

Also, here's something to do. When you are using the motherboard on-board, install the Catalyst drivers, even if you are not using the video card it should install it. Then go into Control Panel and look in the Device Manager, and see if you can't find the video card under VGA adapters. Alternatively, look in the Catalyst manager and see if you don't see the card there.

If you see the card there, it probably means that you are just messing something up.
